Project Description

Emergency Care

Here For You, With a Temporary Change in Hours

CARE will be closed for business from 3am – 3pm Monday through Thursday. Technicians and Veterinarians will continue to care for and treat patients that are hospitalized 24/7. Our highly trained and compassionate veterinary staff will greet you and your pet at the door and stay with you every step of the way until your pet is discharged.

If needed, we have world-class diagnostic tools in our hospital including digital x-rays, the ability to do blood work (with most results within the hour), the ability to analyze urine and fecal samples, endoscopy equipment, and so much more.

We also have the tools for treating your pet that we might need including oxygen chambers, a full pharmacy of injectable and oral medication, surgery suites, a CT machine, and beyond. Whether your pet needs stitches, x-rays, surgery, medication, or a cast, we will be here ready to help when you need us.

What to Expect

Clearwater Emergency Vet

Visiting a veterinary emergency room can have a lot of unknowns. We are here to provide CARE and help you every step of the way.

When you arrive at our hospital you can expect to be greeted by one of our friendly and knowledgeable customer service representatives. They will have you fill out paperwork telling us about you and your pet. They will also call for a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant to come to the front of the hospital to evaluate your pet and see if they are stable or if emergency care needs to be initiated immediately. If there is any concern, they may ask to take your pet to our treatment area to have one of our doctors evaluate him/her and determine if emergency measures need to be started immediately.

For example, if your pet is bleeding, having trouble breathing, bloated, giving birth, or recently ingested a toxin it might be important for one of our veterinarians to begin treatment right away.  If immediate treatment isn’t required, our staff will bring your pet back to you so that you can wait to be seen together. If immediate treatment is required, our staff will describe the situation and what is needed for your pet and get you in touch with the doctor as quickly as possible.

Unless a different plan is discussed, you can expect that after one of our veterinarians performs an exam, a treatment plan will be presented to you with the recommended diagnostics/treatments outlined in an itemized fashion with the associated estimated cost listed so that there are no surprises.  We know that emergency veterinary care is an unexpected cost, and that is why we offer Scratch Pay to allow qualified individuals to setup payment plans. When you and your pet are discharged, we will provide you with detailed, written discharge instructions that let you know how to care for your pet at home and what follow up care, if any, is required.  In general, we recommend that you follow up with your primary care veterinarian for this follow up care. We will always send them a copy of the medical record when your pet is discharged to ensure that there is a smooth transition of care.   When your pet is discharged, we have an in house pharmacy that gives you a convenient way to get your pet’s medication without having to make another stop on the way home.

If your pet requires hospitalization, our doctors and staff are here 24 hours a day to monitor and care for your pet and we will keep you and your primary care veterinarian updated every step of the way.  It may sound silly at first, but we also think Sunshine Therapy is important. By this we mean that we take stable canine patients outside and let them enjoy some time in the sun every day. For feline patients, we have south facing windows that get sun where we can bring cats so they can enjoy some time in the sun (without going outside) as well.  Many hospitals do not make accommodations for this, but at CARE we think it is an important part of treating the patient as a whole. We have visiting hours twice daily when you are welcome to come in and visit with your pet as long as he or she is stable enough for visitors. Additional accommodations can be made for special circumstances.

All of our staff have received special training to do what they can to minimize your stress during this unexpected visit.  If there is anything we can do to make you or your pet more comfortable, please don’t hesitate to ask.
